PRIME MINISTER Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has affirmed his government’s commitment to the counsel of Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah of Perak, who emphasised the importance of leadership accountability, strengthened education, and efficient, principled management of Islamic affairs as crucial pillars in addressing contemporary challenges facing Muslims in Malaysia.
Anwar made the remarks following the 74th meeting of the National Council for Islamic Religious Affairs of Malaysia (MKI), chaired by Sultan Nazrin, held in Perak today.
“The Sultan’s guidance is deeply meaningful and should be collectively reflected upon as a compass to strengthen the values, knowledge, and conscience of the Muslim community in accordance with present-day needs,” the Prime Minister said.
He added that the council meeting exemplified a spirit of consensus and cooperation between the Federal Government and state administrations in formulating strategic decisions and viewpoints to benefit the Muslim community, taking into account contemporary realities and Malaysia’s multicultural society.
“The MADANI Government will continue to consolidate efforts to ensure the management of Islamic affairs is inclusive and effective through inter-state consultation, anchored in the Federal Constitution and supported by the values and aspirations of Malaysia MADANI, for the well-being of the community and enduring national harmony,” he said in a statement on his official Facebook account.
Earlier, Sultan Nazrin stressed the critical need to respect and implement decisions made by the MKI.
The Sultan urged both state and federal authorities to follow through on the council’s resolutions so that its recommendations are not left unheeded or reduced to discussions with no tangible outcomes.
“In my two years chairing the MKI, the meetings have examined and deliberated on a wide range of issues to reach understanding and consensus. The Council of Rulers has been presented with the outcomes. What is more important going forward is the follow-up on all recommendations and resolutions so that they do not remain as written documents lost in a pile of papers,” the Sultan said.
Anwar’s remarks signal the federal government’s intent to prioritise the implementation of MKI resolutions and reflect Sultan Nazrin’s vision of an accountable, consultative, and effective system for managing Islamic affairs across Malaysia. - January 13, 2026
