THE Sessions Court in Kuala Lumpur today officially discharged and acquitted the late Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin of three corruption charges involving a total of RM2.8 million, after the prosecution informed the court it had no intention to continue proceedings against the former Kinabatangan Member of Parliament.
Bung Moktar, who also served as Non-Executive Chairman of FELCRA, faced allegations that he abused his position to facilitate the agency’s RM150 million investment in Public Mutual unit trusts.
The prosecution declined the request by his widow, Datin Seri Zizie Izette Abdul Samad, to withdraw three charges of abetting the alleged corrupt transactions.
The 66-year-old politician, who also served as the Lamag state assemblyman, passed away on December 5 at a Kota Kinabalu hospital from kidney failure and a lung infection.
Bung Moktar was first charged on May 3, 2019, with receiving RM2.2 million and RM262,500 in bribes to secure FELCRA’s approval for the RM150 million investment in Public Mutual.
He was alleged to have received the funds via his wife through a Public Bank Berhad branch in Taman Melawati between 12.30 pm and 5 pm on June 12, 2015.
He was also accused of receiving RM337,500 in cash from Norhaili through a Public Ittikal Sequel Fund (PITSEQ) account registered under his wife’s name for the same purpose.
With the prosecution opting not to proceed, the court’s acquittal marks the formal closure of the case against the late politician, whose passing preceded the trial’s conclusion. - January 16, 2026
