THE government is set to launch the National Education Plan (RPN) 2026-2035, a sweeping strategic initiative designed to strengthen the country’s education system from the school level through to higher education.
The launch, led jointly by the Ministry of Higher Education (KPT) and the Ministry of Education (KPM), will be officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC) on Tuesday.
In a joint statement today, KPT and KPM said the launch reflects the government’s commitment under the MADANI framework to building a high-quality, inclusive, and globally competitive education system.
At the higher education level, the Malaysian Higher Education Plan (RPTM) 2026-2035 will serve as the primary roadmap for the next decade, succeeding the Malaysia Education Development Plan 2015-2025.
“RPTM 2026-2035 was developed through extensive engagement involving 181 local experts and 8,226 stakeholders, including scholars, academics, public and private higher education institutions, industry partners, and representatives from diverse communities,” the ministries said.
The plan is designed to be dynamic and flexible, responding to global changes and technological advancements. Its main focus includes nurturing resilient, purpose-driven talent grounded in universal human values, with integration of technology and artificial intelligence into curricula and research to cultivate future innovators.
RPTM 2026-2035 also prioritises inclusive access to higher education, strengthening Malaysia’s role as a regional hub for tertiary education and research.
Meanwhile, the Malaysian Education Plan (RPM) 2026-2035, led by KPM, will serve as the foundation for national education development, aligned with the ministry’s vision of Quality Education, Educated Citizens, and a Prosperous Nation.
The plan operates under seven strategic pillars and 49 high-impact initiatives, covering access and quality improvement, student potential development, teacher transformation, infrastructure enhancement, multi-stakeholder collaboration, and strengthening governance and delivery systems.
“The implementation of RPTM 2026-2035 and RPM 2026-2035 in an integrated manner under RPN 2026-2035 demonstrates a coherent and phased approach to national education policy, ensuring continuity in human capital development from schools to higher education,” the statement added.
In parallel with the education announcement, several vehicles carrying government ministers, Unity Government MPs, and senior civil servants were observed entering the Seri Perdana Complex today for a pre-parliamentary briefing with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
The session, which marks the start of the Fifth Session of the 15th Parliament, began at 1:30 pm.
At 2:10 pm, the convoy transporting Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof arrived. Early arrivals included Minister in the Prime Minister's Department for Religious Affairs Dr Zulkifli Hasan, Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani, Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil, and Minister for Housing and Local Government Nga Kor Ming.
The briefing is expected to cover pressing national issues and policy updates, including several proposed bills.
Key items on the agenda include legislation to limit the Prime Minister’s tenure to a maximum of ten years or two full terms, the separation of powers between the Attorney General and the Public Prosecutor, the Ombudsman Bill, and the Freedom of Information (FOI) Bill, which have attracted significant public attention.
The formal opening of Parliament will follow, with a royal address by His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, inaugurating both the House of Representatives and the Senate. - January 18, 2026
