FORMER Director-General of Defence Intelligence of the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM), Datuk Mohd Razali Alias, 60, was charged in the Sessions Court today for three counts of accepting bribes of US$20,000 and RM64,600 for the purchase of overseas flight tickets for his wife, two years ago.
Mohd Razali, 60, who arrived in court at 8.35am wearing a full brown suit, however, pleaded not guilty and requested to be tried after the three charges were read out before Judge Suzana Hussin.
"I understand, I plead not guilty and request to be tried," he said.
Mohd Razali was charged with the first charge, which is accepting for himself a bribe of US$20,000 from the Director of Syarikat Intelligence PC Centre Sdn Bhd, Sheikh Ahmad Nafiq Sheikh A Rahman, 45, at the Malaysian Defence Intelligence Organisation (MDIO), Kem Kementah, Jalan Padang Tembak, between August and November 2024.
The money was an incentive for him as the Director General of Defence Intelligence MDIO ATM, to approve the certificate of verification and acceptance of services for the purpose of payment for the Procurement of Maintenance Services and System Support Services for the Cyber Defence Operations Centre (CDOC) of the Defence Intelligence Staff Division (BSPP).
The charge was framed under Section 16(a)(B) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009, which provides for a jail term of up to 20 years and a fine of not less than five times the value of the claims or RM10,000, whichever is higher, upon conviction.
For the second and third charges, he is alleged to have received payments of RM26,800 and RM37,800 respectively for his wife, Datin Azarina Bakia, 59, for the purchase of round-trip flight tickets between Kuala Lumpur and Malaga, Spain and Estonia without any consideration.
The offences under Section 165 of the Penal Code (Act 574), carry a punishment of up to two years' imprisonment, a fine, or both, upon conviction.
The money was from the same individual, who is a director of a company known to be related to his duties, at the same location on 15 November 2024 and 28 April 2025.
Earlier, Razali was accompanied by officers from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) into the court lobby before being taken to the Special Corruption Court.
On January 22, MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said two more senior Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) officers with the title of Datuk would be charged with corruption this week. – January 29, 2026
