A 40-FOUR-YEAR-OLD man remains in critical condition under police guard after he was discovered with self-inflicted slash wounds to his neck and wrists lying alongside the body of his girlfriend who is believed to have been smothered to death days earlier in a locked rental property.
Batu Pahat District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Shahrulanuar Mushaddat Abdullah Sani confirmed that the suspect’s injuries appeared to have been sustained several days prior to the discovery.
Upon entering the house, police found the suspect in a severe state.
However, police are still conducting investigations regarding the motive of the forty-four-year-old suspect’s actions that caused the death of his girlfriend.
At this time, the suspect is critical due to injuries suspected to be from his own actions, the Assistant Commissioner stated.
The grim discovery followed a missing person’s report lodged by the family of the forty-one-year-old victim who had been uncontactable for three days.
Authorities were forced to breach the entrance of the Taman Damai II residence with the assistance of the fire department after finding the premises bolted from the inside.
Internal sweeps of the property led officers to a bedroom where the deceased woman was found on a bed next to the incapacitated suspect. Initial forensic indications suggest the woman was killed on Tuesday morning by having a pillow pressed over her face.
Addressing the state of the suspect at the scene, Assistant Commissioner Shahrulanuar Mushaddat noted that the authorities are investigating the possibility of a murder-suicide attempt.
Before that, family members informed that the victim could not be contacted for three days. After the door was opened, police found the woman together with the suspect lying next to each other on a bed in a room.
Police do not rule out the possibility that the suspect also injured himself and likely had the intention to commit suicide, he added.
The investigation has been formalised under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
The suspect remains under medical supervision as detectives wait to determine the exact circumstances that led to the fatal altercation. - January 31, 2026
