THE Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) is actively scrutinising social media content concerning sensitive issues of race, religion, and sedition, with a view to taking enforcement measures progressively under current legal provisions, Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail has confirmed.
Speaking to reporters after attending the PDRM community policing programme “Thaneer Panthal” at the Sri Subramaniar Swamy Temple in Batu Caves, Mohd Khalid stressed that these matters are persistent and require careful monitoring due to the openness of social media platforms, which encourages public commentary.
“Issues relating to race, religion, sedition and the like are ongoing and persistent. Many of these matters are under close review, and we will take action in stages,” he said.
Mohd Khalid added that certain cases, including those involving specific individuals, are being discussed in consultation with the Attorney General’s Chambers (AGC) to determine the most appropriate legal approach.
“There are instances where individuals have made comments that exceed the limits of existing law, which necessitates enforcement action by the authorities,” he said, underlining the police’s commitment to upholding legal boundaries while monitoring online discourse. - February 1, 2026
