POLICE have confirmed they are investigating businessman Albert Tei in connection with his recent allegations against Tan Sri Azam Baki, the Chief Commissioner of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Mohd Khalid Ismail, stated that Tei was recently summoned to Bukit Aman’s Unit for Classified Crime Investigations (USJT) to assist with inquiries.
The investigation follows Tei’s statements and actions, which were seen as defamatory towards Azam Baki.
“This individual was called in to provide a statement following his remarks, and we have already recorded his testimony,” said Mohd Khalid.
He further explained that the investigation would be completed before the case file is submitted to the Attorney General’s Chambers for further action.
Mohd Khalid made these comments during a media briefing at the Royal Malaysia Police’s (PDRM) ‘Thaneer Panthal’ programme at the Sri Subramania Swamy Temple in Batu Caves, attended by key officials including Datuk M Kumar S Muthuvelu, Director of the Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (JSJ), and Datuk Shazeli Kahar, the Selangor Police Chief.
Tei, who was called to Bukit Aman last Thursday, is being investigated for alleged misuse of network facilities and defamation following the circulation of a video. The video was previously linked to an investigation that led to corruption charges against a former senior political aide.
Tei confirmed that he was being questioned over a recording featuring himself and a woman named Sofia Rini Buyong. He also raised concerns about the authorities' failure to return closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage that was seized during a previous raid at his residence.
“I want the authorities to release the footage to the public to clarify allegations related to a break-in at my house,” Tei said.
Tei has also repeated accusations related to a corruption issue in Sabah, which allegedly involves mineral exploration licenses. He further questioned the pace at which the MACC is investigating the matter. - February 1, 2026
