THE Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Kedah has remanded two individuals, including an independent preacher, on suspicion of abusing their power to approve approximately RM600,000 as payment for fundraising activities for an educational and dakwah institution.

The one-day remand order against the two suspects was issued by Magistrate Noorfazlina Musa after an application by the MACC at the Magistrate's Court.

According to sources, the suspects, who are a man and a woman in their 30s, were arrested at about 1 pm on Wednesday when they appeared to give statements at the MACC Sungai Petani Branch office.

"Initial investigations found that the two suspects, respectively the Managing Director of the Company and the Head of the Finance and Accounting Department, were suspected of abetting the act around September 2018.

"The main suspect, a man, is believed to have abused his position and conspired with the second suspect, a woman, to approve a payment of approximately RM600,000 to the main suspect without obtaining approval from the other partners," he said.

The source added that the investigation conducted by the Kedah MACC and the MACC's Anti-Money Laundering (AML) Division had begun in October last year.

Meanwhile, Kedah MACC Director, Datuk Nazli Rasyid Sulong, when contacted, confirmed the arrest.

The case is being investigated under Section 23 of the MACC Act 2009. – February 5, 2026
