Abdul Azeez and children ordered to declare assets within a month

THE Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has served notices to the former Chairman of Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH), Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim, and his family members—including his children—requiring them to declare their assets.

MACC Chief Commissioner Datuk Seri Abdul Halim Aman stated that the notices were served to Abdul Azeez and his immediate family members in accordance with legal provisions.

“We have served notices to Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez and his family members for the declaration of assets, as stipulated by law.

“The Act allows for one month. If, for instance, that one-month timeframe proves insufficient, we may grant an extension depending on the circumstances,” he said.

When asked whether the notices also involved Abdul Azeez’s children, Abdul Halim confirmed the matter.

“Regarding immediate family—I cannot specify the exact number—but 'immediate family' does include his children,” he said.

Meanwhile, Abdul Halim noted that as of September 18, six individuals had been charged in connection with eight issues or cases investigated following the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report on TH.

However, he added that the MACC’s investigations have not concluded, as five other investigations remain ongoing and have yet to be finalised.

“Our investigators are still looking into the remaining cases that have not yet been concluded. Within the scope of our operations, there are five ongoing investigations.

“We are currently gathering detailed and up-to-date information from relevant parties for these active investigations,” he said.

Abdul Azeez was previously charged in the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court on September 9 with using his position to secure the chairmanship of Putrajaya Perdana Berhad and to persuade the TH Board to approve a RM193.5 million investment proposal in the company.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Prior to that, Abdul Azeez had also been detained to assist in investigations regarding a case involving TH grants under Section 420 of the Penal Code, but was released after the court rejected a police application to extend his remand.

The investigation and prosecution are part of the authorities' follow-up actions regarding the findings of the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report on the management and operations of TH.

Meanwhile, Abd Halim said MACC investigating officers are recording the statement of former FELDA Chairman Tan Sri Isa Samad at Sungai Buloh Prison as part of an investigation involving FELDA and Felda Investment Corporation Sdn Bhd (FIC).

He said the process of recording Isa's statement began on September 17 and continued yesterday.

He noted that the process is expected to take another three or four days.

"So far, his statement has been recorded over two full days.

"The process will resume on Monday, and we expect the recording of the former FELDA Chairman's statement to be completed by Thursday," he added.

Abd Halim said investigators were examining suspected elements of corruption, misappropriation and abuse of power involving asset purchases allegedly made above their valuation.

The MACC had previously said the investigations under Op Fella covered asset purchases and investments involving Felda and FIC between 2010 and 2020. – September 19, 2026
