SELANGOR PKR members must begin mobilising early to help the party retain its dominance in the state and secure a second term for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Selangor Menteri Besar and PKR state chief Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said today.
Addressing delegates at the Selangor PKR convention at the MPAJ Convention Centre, Amirudin said groundwork could begin as early as Ramadan, with initiatives rolled out more aggressively after the fasting month to strengthen the party’s position ahead of the next elections.
He said he would personally assess progress after Hari Raya Aidilfitri to ensure party machinery was actively implementing plans, including establishing new divisions and raising public awareness that the country’s achievements stem from policies introduced by Anwar and PKR.
“If we deliver in the state of Selangor, we will succeed in defending the state of Selangor and we will succeed in bringing and continuing the second-term leadership of the prime minister in Putrajaya,” said Amirudin, who is also a PKR vice-president.
Reflecting on recent political history, Amirudin pointed out that PKR and Pakatan Harapan had rebounded strongly in 2022 after disappointing performances in the Johor and Melaka state elections.
He noted that PH went on to secure the highest number of seats in the 15th general election, paving the way for Anwar’s appointment as prime minister.
However, he cautioned Selangor PKR members against complacency, warning that remaining in a comfort zone could undermine the party’s long-standing hold on the state.
He urged members to begin the year with a clear focus on strengthening PKR’s position in Selangor and reclaiming seats lost in previous state elections, while ensuring victory in the polls to form the next government.
Amirudin stressed that Selangor’s contribution of 12 to 14 parliamentary seats would be critical in determining both Anwar’s prospects for a second term as prime minister and Pakatan Harapan’s ability to continue governing Selangor.
“Because without that 14, 12 seats, it’s possible that we would not be able to send the prime minister for the second term in Putrajaya, and without our excellent success at the state, it’s possible we can no longer continue the legacy of leadership that has already entered its fourth consecutive term,” he said. - February7, 2026
