JELUTONG MP R. S. N. Rayer has urged Malaysian authorities to take decisive legal action against controversial preacher Zamri Vinoth Kalimuthu Abdullah, following reports that he allegedly proceeded with a street rally in defiance of clear directives.
Rayer expressed dismay that Zamri allegedly ignored warnings from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who had explicitly advised against holding any events that could embarrass the official visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“Zamri Vinoth and all his accomplices must face the full force of the law now. No police bail should be granted.
“The police must remand him and charge him. Otherwise, Zamri Vinoth will not only have no fear and respect for the law in this country, he will also have no respect and regard for the Prime Minister. Nobody is above the law,” Rayer wrote on social media.
The MP also voiced concern over the detention of organisers from a separate counter-rally, known as the ‘Perhimpunan Membantah Keenganan Polis - Kerajaan Untuk Mengambil Tindakan Terhadap Penghinaan Agama Hindu Di Malaysia’.
Among those detained were Arun Doraisamy and Sai Saravana, despite the group reportedly having called off their planned peaceful gathering in Brickfields, Kuala Lumpur, in accordance with the Prime Minister’s advice.
“The police must explain why they arrested the organisers in particular Arun Doraisamy and Sai Saravana. The police must know the difference between citizens who obey the law and the ones who brazenly defy it.
“Justice must not only be done, but must be seen to be done,” Rayer added.
The MP’s remarks come amid heightened scrutiny of public demonstrations during high-profile state visits, highlighting the tension between freedom of assembly and the enforcement of law and order in Malaysia. - February 8, 2026
