BERSATU deputy president and Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin has been called to appear before the party’s Disciplinary Board to assist in investigations into allegations surrounding disorder at the party’s Annual General Assembly and claims of actions directed against party president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
Hamzah, who is also the Member of Parliament for Larut, has been instructed to give his statement at noon this Thursday at Bersatu headquarters.
The summons was issued through a second notice of appearance dated 6 February and signed by the chairman of the Disciplinary Board, Datuk Mohd Radzi Manan.
According to the notice, the Disciplinary Board has received four formal complaints against Hamzah, dated 30 September 2025 and 5 February this year.
The board has decided to convene a meeting with him to obtain his explanation in relation to the complaints lodged.
Among the allegations are claims that Hamzah failed to prevent several party leaders and members from issuing statements attacking Muhyiddin and damaging the image of Bersatu.
He is also accused of failing to stop unauthorised negotiations with presidents of Perikatan Nasional component parties without a party mandate, including discussions involving the Perikatan Nasional Executive Council that were previously rejected by Bersatu’s Political Bureau and Supreme Leadership Council.
Another complaint alleges that Hamzah tarnished Muhyiddin’s image by making statements claiming he was not invited to a meeting involving Perikatan Nasional component party presidents on 28 January.
Earlier, two Bersatu Selangor leaders, Rafiq Abdullah and Datuk Harisson Hassan, had urged the Disciplinary Board to investigate Hamzah and take firm action, including expulsion, should he be found responsible for the party’s internal crisis.
Rafiq had also called on Hamzah to step down, although political analysts have suggested that the Perikatan Nasional deputy chairman is unlikely to respond to such demands and will instead await the party’s decision.
Hamzah has previously denied that his relationship with Muhyiddin is strained, rejecting claims of the existence of rival factions within Bersatu.
He has also described such allegations as deliberately manufactured to sow division within the party and Perikatan Nasional.
Despite these denials, Hamzah has continued to be linked to accusations of encouraging internal fractures within the party, which are believed to have contributed to several recent disciplinary actions.
These include the expulsion of Tasek Gelugor MP Datuk Wan Saiful Wan Jan and Indera Mahkota MP Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah, as well as the suspension of Machang MP Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal. - February 8, 2026
