SHAH ALAM – He lied to the masses when he said he would hand over the premiership to Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, but former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad says it is Anwar who should not be trusted.
Alluding to Anwar’s claim of a strong, formidable and convincing majority to take over the government in September, Dr Mahathir claimed that the opposition leader is known for making false claims.
The Pejuang chairman added that attempts for the pair to cooperate in the opposition had been outright rejected by the PKR president.
“Just count, has Anwar ever delivered on his promise? How many times has he said that he would form a government? If you still want to believe in him, that’s your problem.
“As far as I am concerned, I don’t believe whatever he says anymore. And he said he has a strong, formidable and convincing majority? Pergi balik lah (go home lah),” he told a press conference after attending a Pejuang event here today.
Dr Mahathir said since the collapse of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government in February, he had offered to work together with the coalition but this did not work out.
“Anwar rejected me. He said I can’t join them. He was the one who rejected. I merely offered to be a prime minister for six months, but he said no,” he said.
“Even suggestions for (Warisan president) Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal to be named the prime ministerial candidate were rejected.
“But Anwar can never be the prime minister if he doesn’t have enough support. And if he doesn’t have our (MPs aligned to Mahathir and Shafie) backing, then he will never have enough support,” he said. – The Vibes, December 31, 2020
