BERSATU’S internal disciplinary board is continuing its review of the party’s deputy president, Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin, with no decision reached as yet, amid speculation over his position within the party.
The disciplinary panel has emphasised it will exhaust all internal procedures before arriving at a conclusion to ensure transparency.
An internal party source told Berita Harian that, “for the sake of justice, no determination has been made on Hamzah’s status.”
The source noted that Hamzah, who is currently overseas, was unable to attend the scheduled proceedings.
“For the sake of justice, the disciplinary board has not made any decision regarding his status. Hamzah is currently abroad and was unable to attend the scheduled proceedings,” the source said.
The source also urged all parties to refrain from speculation that could worsen the situation, and to allow the party’s internal justice process to take its course through the proper channels.
Rumours of a leadership rift within Bersatu have fuelled speculation about Hamzah’s position, particularly given his role as the parliamentary opposition leader.
Despite this, party leaders have maintained that Bersatu remains united under the leadership of president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
Hamzah, who serves as the Member of Parliament for Larut, is widely regarded as a central figure in the political strategy of the Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition.
Any decision regarding his standing within the party is expected to have significant implications for its future direction.
Media representatives are currently awaiting an official statement from the chairman of the Bersatu disciplinary board, Datuk Mohd Radzi Manan, or from the party’s executive secretary, to confirm a timeline for an announcement.
Hamzah was summoned to appear before the disciplinary board in connection with investigations into his alleged involvement in disruptions during the party’s annual general assembly and verbal attacks directed at Muhyiddin.
A second summons notice, signed by Datuk Mohd Radzi on 6 February, indicated that four complaints, dating from 30 September last year and 5 February this year, had been filed against Hamzah.
On Wednesday, Hamzah’s private secretary, Ahmad Ikhwan Fadhli, confirmed that the opposition leader would miss the hearing. He explained that Hamzah was in Australia to assist his daughter with university enrolment. - February 13, 2026
