THE discontentment in Penang DAP boiled over when former Tanjong MP Ng Wei Aik posted 'unfriendly' remarks about his comrade Steven Sim Chee Keong, the Penang DAP chairman.
The barbs posed on social media even attracted the attention of a Selangor DAP leader, Dr Ong Kian Ming, the former Serdang MP, who urged restraint within the party.
"Chinese New Year is a time for us to spend time with our families and friends, and I will definitely be doing this next week. In the meantime, I am surprised to read this post by my former parliamentary colleague, the former MP for Tanjung, Ng (Wei Aik), on the current DAP Penang chairman and Minister of Entrepreneurship Development and Cooperatives (Sim)"
Ong urged Ng to instead recognise the achievements of Sim, who rose from the grassroots to become a state and national leader.
"The basis of the attacks against Sim is petty and very one-sided. For example, Ng brings up the fact that Sim was thinking of joining Gerakan prior to the 2008 general elections, before deciding to join DAP instead. Should this be a black mark against Sim? Wasn't Jeff Ooi, the former MP for Jelutong from 2008 to 2018, a member of Gerakan before he was invited to join the DAP and contested as a DAP candidate in 2008?"
Ng took to social media to question the credibility of Sim, citing that he has become suspicious of him.
Ng questioned if Sim was indeed a graduate of Universiti Malaya (UM) in computer science, as the public institution of higher learning was not renowned for its information and communications technology academic studies.
In a series of rebukes against Sim, Ng, who is also a UM graduate, described Sim as a mysterious person.
"I am not impressed with him," said Ng, who had served as a political secretary to former chief minister Lim Guan Eng.
Ng's career started in the Chinese vernacular media after he graduated from UM.
Ng was not selected to contest since 2013, but remains in the party in a low-profile position, unlike his peers such as former Jelutong MP Jeff Ooi Chuan Aun, who has since quit the party.
Ng is now actively involved in addressing issues related to the joint management bodies of high-rise living properties.
Ng said that Sim was more of a pro-establishment person, whom he believed was more inclined to join Gerakan rather than DAP.
"But when DAP seized power in Penang in 2008, Sim decided to join the Rockets, but his leanings then saw him as having more affinity to the more pro-establishment rather than the Opposition movement of which DAP was part of then," said Ng.
Attempts have been made to reach out to Sim for his responses to the claims made by Ng - February 13, 2026.
