A TOTAL of 34 premises owners in the Lorong Haji Hussien Tiga area, Chow Kit, have requested that their relocation order to the Raja Bot Complex be postponed until the market development project is fully completed.
The application was made following traders' concerns over the development of the entire complex, which is still delayed, causing customers to stay away for now.
The situation has caught the attention of Titiwangsa Member of Parliament, Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani, who stressed that, on average, traders actually agree to relocate, but demand that the facilities be completed first to ensure the continuity of their businesses.
"I have personally seen the business activities here, which are their main source of income. Traders understand that this area needs to be developed, and they agree to relocate.
"However, before moving to the new market, the Chow Kit Market project needs to be completed first because it has been abandoned for 10 years.
"If they move in now, no one can do business because people will not come due to the ongoing construction work," he said.
Johari, who is also the Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry, said this after going to the field to personally inspect the situation of local traders and listen to the grievances voiced by them.
Following that, Johari is committed to bringing the postponement application to the authorities to find a fair solution without affecting the 'rice pots' of traders.
"I understand their problems, and I have proposed this matter to the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) and will meet with the Mayor.
"There is no point in opening this hawker area if in the end no customers come," he added. – February 18, 2026
