MALAYSIA’S top police officer has urged patience as authorities investigate allegations of an attempt to topple the government and sabotage national stability, stressing that such a serious probe cannot be rushed.
Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail said scrutiny of the report is required before any further action is taken.
“This matter is still under police action, and we hope all parties will be patient. The investigation will certainly be carried out professionally and based on the facts and evidence obtained,” he said when contacted by Sinar Harian.
“If there are developments, we will inform.”
Police confirmed yesterday that it is investigating a prominent individual and an international media agency over alleged attempts to undermine the government and destabilise the country.
The investigation is being conducted by the Classified Criminal Investigation Unit under the Prosecution/Legal Division (D5) of the Criminal Investigation Department at Bukit Aman, under Section 124B of the Penal Code.
The provision relates to activities detrimental to parliamentary democracy and carries a penalty of up to 20 years’ imprisonment upon conviction.
Media reports have alleged that a coordinated conspiracy involving foreign lobbyists and an international media organisation was uncovered through leaked confidential documents said to be linked to the family of an influential figure.
According to a source, the investigation stems from a police report lodged on 26 February by an individual who claimed that a confidential meeting was held in July 2025 at the residence of the figure concerned.
The meeting allegedly discussed plans to “attack” Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki.
In a related development, Azam Baki said he would leave the matter entirely to the police.
“I leave it to the police to conduct a detailed, transparent and professional investigation. In my view, national sovereignty is a serious issue that must be investigated thoroughly,” he said.
The unfolding probe has drawn significant public attention, given its implications for national security and the stability of Malaysia’s parliamentary democracy. - February 28, 2026
