THE PKR Central Leadership Council (MPP) yesterday decided to suspend all party positions held by Penang executive councillor for agrotechnology, food security and cooperative development, Fahmi Zainol, with immediate effect.

Fahmi, who is also the Vice Chairman of Penang PKR, was suspended following the court case he is facing.

PKR Secretary-General, Datuk Dr Fuziah Salleh, said the decision was made at the MPP meeting yesterday.

The suspension of the party positions will remain in effect until the court case involving the Pantai Jerejak State Assemblyman (ADUN) is decided.

"Regarding his position in the Penang State Executive Council, PKR will send a letter to the Chief Minister soon," she said in a statement.

On February 27, Fahmi, 35, pleaded not guilty at the Balik Pulau Magistrate's Court to a charge of intentionally injuring his wife last week.

The court allowed the accused bail of RM2,000 with one surety and set April 28 for mention of the case.

In the same meeting, the MPP also discussed the issue of the show-cause letter issued to Pandan Member of Parliament, Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli.

Fuziah said the party had received Rafizi's response and noted that he remained a party member with a reminder to always comply with the constitution, code of ethics and party discipline.

The MPP meeting was also informed that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim would bring an urgent motion to the Dewan Rakyat today to condemn the attack on Israel and its allies in Iran.

Meanwhile, the MPP announced that PKR would accept 14,225 new members for the period October 2025 to January 2026. – March 2, 2026
