MALAYSIA has expressed strong opposition to ongoing military operations targeting Iran, warning that such actions, regardless of policy differences or political disagreements, violate international principles and jeopardise regional stability, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said in Parliament today.

“Most, if not all, parties are being dragged into the theatre of war as a result of attacks initiated by Israel in collusion with the United States,” Anwar stated.

“The global order, including the United Nations and the recent statement by Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, clearly binds member states to comply with international law. Yet Israel is the only country consistently violating international mandates.

"Today it is Iran, yesterday Lebanon, previously Iraq and Syria, and the massacres of the people of Palestine and Gaza continue unabated.”

The Prime Minister emphasised that Malaysia has no choice but to categorically assert that such military actions contravene global rules and legal norms.

“Therefore, Malaysia condemns in the strongest terms the brutal and aggressive attacks by the Zionist regime of Israel and the United States on Iran,” he said while presenting a motion to denounce the assaults in the Dewan Rakyat.

Anwar called for an immediate, unconditional ceasefire and urged that any disputes be resolved constructively at the negotiation table.

“It cannot be disputed that these violent actions, targeting a sovereign and independent nation, are barbaric, violate the UN Charter, and breach all legal frameworks established under international law,” he remarked.

Highlighting a path toward diplomacy, the Prime Minister urged Gulf countries to unite and engage in talks to safeguard the freedom and independence of the region.

“Otherwise, as has been predicted, attacks could continue from one nation to another, as indicated by statements from various Israeli leaders. The most recent warning even suggested that Turkey’s government could be at risk of an attack by Israel,” Anwar added.

The Malaysian government’s statement underscores its commitment to upholding international law and promoting peaceful conflict resolution amid escalating tensions in the Middle East.- March 2, 2026
