POLICE in Selangor have received eight reports against activist Arun Dorasamy over statements he allegedly made in connection with the demolition of a temple structure in Rawang, as investigations into the wider dispute continue.
Selangor police chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar said the reports were lodged by various individuals and non-governmental organisations expressing dissatisfaction over remarks attributed to the activist.
He confirmed that Arun would be called in to assist with the investigation.
"The reports concern dissatisfaction over statements issued by this individual," he told reporters today.
All complainants have had their statements recorded, and inquiries remain ongoing. The case has been classified as ROR, or “refer other report”, meaning it has been linked to an earlier police report concerning the same temple issue.
Shazeli was speaking amid continuing controversy over the demolition of a structure alleged to have been built without approval on land fully owned by Yayasan Kubra.
He said police had also received a separate report regarding the demolition itself, which he described as having been conducted in an orderly manner by the temple management.
"However, we are also referring to other reports and linking them to the original report as the substance remains related to the same issue," he said.
He recently urged the public not to inflame racial or religious tensions following the demolition of the house of worship in Rawang, stressing that the matter was not a dispute between faiths or communities but a legal issue involving trespass and refusal to relocate.
Investigations, he added, are being conducted professionally and in accordance with the Federal Constitution.
"The public is advised not to politicise the matter or incite racial and religious sentiments," he was quoted as saying.
In a separate development, Shazeli advised mosques throughout Selangor to ensure that closed-circuit television systems are properly installed and operational following the theft of a donation box at Masjid Kristal in Section 7.
He said CCTV footage had played a crucial role in identifying and apprehending four suspects linked to the theft.
"In this case, the CCTV recording provided the starting point for further police action. Without it, investigations may have been delayed," he said at a press conference.
He urged mosque and surau committees across the state to ensure that CCTV systems are not merely installed but actively monitored and maintained.
"Do not just install CCTV for show. Make sure it functions properly and is maintained. It is important for security and can significantly assist police investigations," he said.
The advice followed the arrest of four individuals, including a 17-year-old, suspected of stealing a steel donation box containing RM450 from the mosque at about 4am on 22 February.
Police have obtained approval to charge all four under Section 380 of the Penal Code for theft in a building, and they are expected to be produced before the Shah Alam Magistrates’ Court tomorrow.
"So far, investigations indicate it was purely a theft case. There was no other motive involved," Shazeli said, reiterating that there was no element of provocation behind the act.
The suspects, aged between 17 and 26, were detained during raids conducted between 12.30am and 3am on 22 and 24 February at several locations across the Klang Valley, including Section 13, Arte Subang West, Seri Kembangan and outside Sky Suite KLCC.
Police checks revealed that all four have prior criminal and drug-related records, with one testing positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine. Officers also seized a Toyota Avanza, four mobile telephones and RM200 in cash during the operations.
