A TOTAL of RM15.5 billion in cash and assets were recovered by special teams of various agencies over three years starting in 2023.
The special teams of various agencies involved the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), the Inland Revenue Board (IRB), the Royal Malaysian Customs Department (JKDM), the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM), the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN), the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (Maritim Malaysia) and Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM).
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the amount of cash and assets successfully recovered also increased sharply compared to the previous year.
Anwar, who is also the Minister of Finance, gave an example: in 2018, RM37 million in money and assets were recovered, while in 2019 it recorded RM1.2 billion.
"Steps will continue to be taken through information sharing and close cooperation between the relevant enforcement agencies," he said during the Minister's Question Time session at the Dewan Rakyat, today.
Anwar said that among the high-profile cases related to corruption and abuse of power that have been taken action against include the charge against the former Senior Political Secretary to the Prime Minister in December last year.
In addition, he said, four high-ranking officers of the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) were also charged with abuse of position and breach of trust in January.
"Most recently, the investigation and arrest of the Director General and Deputy Director of the Department of Environment in January 2026.
"This shows our seriousness in carrying out tangible tasks in the governance of the Civil Government," he said. – March 3, 2026
