FORMER UMNO Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin has formally submitted an appeal to return to United Malays National Organisation, signalling a possible reconciliation with the party he once helped lead.

Party president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi confirmed that he personally received the appeal letter from Khairy on Sunday evening.

In a statement posted on Facebook, Zahid said the request would be referred to the party’s Rumah Bangsa Unity Committee for further review before any decision is made.

The committee is chaired by UMNO vice-president Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin.

“Alhamdulillah, this is among the true meanings of Rumah Bangsa. It is an effort to reunite those who were once separated, to bring closer those who had drifted apart and to gather us again within one large family of struggle.

“In this journey of struggle, as I often say, ‘biduk lalu, kiambang bertaut’ (means people who were once divided or in conflict eventually reconcile and reunite).

“What matters more is finding the path to unity, not allowing division to continue separating us,” he said.

Zahid added that he hopes the Rumah Bangsa initiative will serve as a foundation to bring together those who had previously parted ways with the party, strengthen its ranks and restore UMNO’s strength as a major political platform for Malays and Muslims in Malaysia.

Separately, UMNO secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki revealed that several other former leaders have also submitted appeals to return to the party, including former vice-president Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein.

“Very touching and joyful news on the final night of Ramadan.

“May Allah SWT bless UMNO as this Rumah Bangsa to continue championing the agenda of Islam, the Malays and the nation as a whole.

“Alhamdulillah Ya Allah, we are grateful for Your blessings!,” he said. - March 16, 2026
