A 26-YEAR-OLD soldier was killed in a devastating early-morning collision in Masjid Tanah in Melaka after the motorcycle he was riding crashed into another motorcycle and a car, leaving him with fatal head injuries and a severed right arm.

The incident occurred at about 2.20am along Jalan Padang Kemunting as the victim was travelling from Sungai Udang towards Pengkalan Balak.

Melaka Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Superintendent Muhammad Zaki Ramat said preliminary investigations indicate the crash happened when the victim attempted to overtake a vehicle ahead, entering the opposite lane.

“That action caused the victim to collide with a motorcycle and a car coming from the opposite direction.

“As a result of the accident, the victim died at the scene due to severe head injuries, and his right arm was severed,” he said in a statement.

The victim, who was riding a Yamaha RXZ, was pronounced dead at the scene due to severe head injuries.

The rider of the second motorcycle, a SYM VF3i, sustained serious injuries, including fractures to the leg and right arm, and was taken to Hospital Melaka for treatment.

The driver of the car, a 29-year-old woman, was unharmed.

Muhammad Zaki said the victim’s body was sent to the Forensic Unit at Hospital Alor Gajah for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Police have urged witnesses or those with information to come forward to assist in the investigation by contacting the Alor Gajah traffic investigating officer, Inspector Loh Gia Xao, or visiting the nearest police station. - March 23, 2026
