Met Dept issues weather warning for Pahang, Johor

KUALA LUMPUR – The Meteorological Department has issued a bad weather warning for several areas in Pahang and Johor.

In a statement today, it said heavy rain is forecast in Pekan and Rompin in Pahang, and Mersing in Johor.

Raub, Bentong, Temerloh, Maran, Kuantan, Bera and Cameron Highlands in Pahang, and Johor’s Segamat, Kluang, Tangkak and Muar, are expected to experience similar weather until tomorrow.

Downpours are expected in some areas in Kelantan and Terengganu until tomorrow as well.

“The same weather forecast applies to the districts of Batu Pahat, Pontian, Kulai, Kota Tinggi and Johor Baru today,” said the department.

Several areas in the west coast states of the peninsula, Sarawak, and some Sabah districts are expected to see thunderstorms and strong winds this evening.

The department said these situations have the potential to cause flash floods, especially in low-lying areas.

It said strong northeast winds of more than 60kph and waves of up 4.5m are expected in the waters off Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang, eastern Johor, Sarawak, Sabah and Labuan.

These pose the risk of seawater overflow along coastal stretches and at the mouth of rivers, it said. – Bernama, January 3, 2021
