A FEMALE doctor narrowly escaped drowning after her car veered into a large roadside ditch on Jalan Lintas Kepayan early yesterday morning, thanks to the swift action of four men who rushed to her aid.

The incident occurred at around 7am as the doctor drove a Perodua Myvi from Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA) toward the Lido area.

Her vehicle reportedly collided with the rear of a tow truck, causing her car to lose control, skid, and ultimately plunge into the sizable ditch alongside the road.

The tow truck driver, witnessing the accident, immediately jumped into the ditch to assist the trapped motorist.

Three additional men, who happened to be passing by, also leapt into the ditch to aid in the rescue.

Together, the four men managed to pull the doctor from the vehicle, which was almost submerged in water. She was promptly transported to a nearby hospital for further medical attention.

Authorities have praised the courage and quick thinking of the rescuers, noting that their decisive actions likely prevented a tragic outcome in what could have been a fatal accident. - April 8, 2026
