KUALA LUMPUR – As the rift deepens between Umno and its Perikatan Nasional ally, Bersatu, Supreme Council member Datuk Mohd Puad Zarkashi expressed his backing for the Pagoh division’s decision to contest the seat.

In a Facebook post today, Puad said he strongly supports Pagoh Umno’s stance to field a candidate in the parliamentary constituency, as well as the state seats within.

The decision was made at the division’s meeting yesterday, he said, and the proposal will be submitted to the Supreme Council.

“Congratulations, Pagoh Umno.”

Pagoh is the stronghold of Prime Minister and Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

He won the seat in the 1978 general election on an Umno ticket, and retained it in 1982.

He returned to win the seat for the party in 1995.

After defecting to Bersatu before the 2018 elections, Muhyiddin kept Pagoh.

He won 45.7% of the votes (23,558), defeating Umno’s Ismail Mohamed, who got 32.3% (16,631).

Muhyiddin is also Gambir assemblyman. – The Vibes, January 3, 2021
