THE estate and family of the late former finance minister Tun Daim Zainuddin, together with his widow Toh Puan Na’imah Abdul Khalid and other next of kin, have withdrawn their application at the High Court for a stay of four asset forfeiture proceedings initiated by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and the government.
The move comes after the Sessions Court earlier this month granted stays of the forfeiture proceedings, pending the disposal of separate judicial review applications filed in 2024 as well as a related constitutional reference matter currently before the courts.
High Court Judge Datuk Aliza Sulaiman allowed the withdrawal during online proceedings and ordered the plaintiffs to pay RM2,000 in costs to the MACC and the government.
The forfeiture proceedings involve Daim, who died in November 2024, his widow Na’imah, their children Asnida, Md Wira Dani, Muhammed Amir Zainuddin and Muhammed Amin Zainuddin, as well as 18 companies alleged to be connected to the family’s business interests.
The companies named in the MACC’s forfeiture action include AAD Equity Sdn Bhd, Yayasan Haji Zainuddin, Ilham Baru Sdn Bhd, Anchor Point Sdn Bhd, Kangkung Catering Sdn Bhd, Adrihaniz Sdn Bhd, Syarikat Malur Sdn Bhd, Amiraz Sdn Bhd, Ridana Sdn Bhd, Daan Sdn Bhd, Maya Seni Holdings Sdn Bhd, Magical Zone Sdn Bhd, Permatang Maju (M) Sdn Bhd, Brainstorms Sdn Bhd, Arida Farms Sdn Bhd, Gajah3 Resource Centre Sdn Bhd, Ilham Tower Sdn Bhd and Selidik Jaya Sdn Bhd.
Separately from the forfeiture actions, the judicial review proceedings also name the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, the government, MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, and two senior MACC officers as respondents.
The proceedings were conducted online and were not open to the media. However, counsel for Na’imah, Nizamuddin Abdul Hamid, and lawyer Abraham Au later confirmed the outcome when contacted.
“It’s a stay against MACC forfeiture proceedings. We withdrew our application at the High Court because we have obtained stay at four separate Sessions Court for the forfeiture,” The Edge quoted Nizamuddin saying today.
