THE Ministry of Health (MOH) has assured that there will be no disruption in the country's supply of medical devices due to market uncertainty caused by conflicts in West Asia.
Its Minister, Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad, said this was because the Medical Device Authority (MDA) had established a strategic partnership with China to increase the supply of resin and naphtha raw materials for local industrial use.
“This is one of the mitigation measures that the ministry has continuously implemented to ensure that the medical device supply chain in the country is not affected.
“As a proactive measure, MDA has finalised a strategic agreement with the Chinese authorities to increase the supply of resin and naphtha raw materials for local industrial use,” he said.
Dr Dzulkefley said the initiative aims to stabilise the supply chain and ensure the continuity of critical medical device production in Malaysia.
“The additional supply will serve as a major catalyst in accommodating the current shortage of raw materials to meet the needs of the national health system,” he said.
Dr Dzulkefley said the government expressed its highest appreciation to the Chinese government for its strong commitment in supporting the stability of the supply chain of raw materials for the regional medical device industry.
Clearly, the strategic collaboration is important to ensure that the raw materials are sufficient to continue making medical devices.
“The important thing is that we no longer face supply disruptions. Regarding the price, that is in the negotiation of the ‘willing buyer, willing seller’ principle,” he said. – April 19, 2026
