POLICE are investigating a murder in Ipoh after a 70-year-old woman was found dead in a house in Persiaran Pegoh Aman 2, with a 52-year-old man arrested at the scene shortly after the incident.

Authorities said officers rushed to the location following an emergency report and discovered the victim in a critical condition before she was confirmed dead by paramedics upon arrival.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Muhammad Najib Hamzah confirmed in a statement that early investigations indicate the victim suffered multiple injuries consistent with a violent assault involving a sharp weapon.

“Preliminary investigations show that the victim had marks on his body, head, and neck that are believed to be from being slashed with a sharp weapon,” he noted, adding that police also recovered a machete believed to be the murder weapon at the scene.

The suspect, a 52-year-old man, was detained on-site to assist investigations, and police said an application for remand will be made to facilitate further questioning.

The motive for the killing remains under investigation, while the victim’s body has been sent to Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, which carries the death penalty or imprisonment of between 30 and 40 years, along with caning upon conviction.

Police have urged members of the public with information related to the case to contact the Ipoh police headquarters hotline at 05-2451500 to assist investigations.
