POLICE are tracking a man, believed to be a foreigner, to assist investigations of a viral incident involving allegations of attempted kidnapping and physical harassment of school students in Arau yesterday.

Arau District Police Chief, Superintendent Ahmad Mohsin Md Rodi, said police  received a report regarding the incident from a 41-year-old complainant at 1 pm today.

In a statement today, he said that at the time of the incident at 5.45 pm yesterday, the complainant and his wife were training students in a silat class at the primary school field.

"The complainant found a foreign man entering the school compound through the back gate, straight to the field area where they were training. The suspect then grabbed, lifted and kissed several male students without any reason," he said.

Ahmad Mohsin said that the complainant, who was suspicious and worried that the suspect had bad intentions, immediately stopped the man's actions, ordering the suspect to leave the area before being assisted by school security guards.

"The suspect immediately left the school premises and fled towards a nearby forest area. The complainant also informed that the suspect was found not to be proficient in Malay, instead only speaking Thai," he said.

Following the incident, he said, police met with the school authorities to confirm the incident and were informed that they had discussed it with the complainant and advised him to file a police report for the safety of other students.

"The report was referred to the criminal investigation officer of the Arau District Police Headquarters (IPD), and efforts are being made to track down the suspect," he said.
