HIS Royal Highness the Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Shah, has granted royal consent for 625 educators and teachers throughout the state to deliver Friday sermons today as part of Teachers’ Day celebrations, marking an unprecedented tribute to the teaching profession.

Perak Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (MAIPk) president Tan Sri Mohd Annuar Zaini said the royal decree reflected recognition of the vital contribution made by educators and teachers to society and nation-building.

“His Royal Highness the Sultan of Perak Darul Ridzuan, Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah ibni Almarhum Sultan Azlan Muhibbuddin Shah Al-Maghfur-Lah, has decreed that the Friday sermon in Perak on May 15, 2026, should carry the theme of teachers, in conjunction with Teachers’ Day on May 16, 2026.

“His Royal Highness has consented to educators and teachers being given the honour of serving as invited khatibs to deliver the sermon titled ‘Guru Berhikmah Membina Insan Sejahtera’,” he said in a statement.

Under the royal initiative, Education director-general Datuk Dr Mohd Azam Ahmad will lead the group of educators and teachers in delivering the Friday sermon at the State Mosque, Sultan Idris Shah II Mosque.

Meanwhile, Ministry of Education Islamic Education Division director Omar Salleh is scheduled to deliver the sermon at Sultan Azlan Shah Mosque in Ipoh, while religious teacher Samad Hassan of SMK Bukit Merchu will address congregants at the Ubudiah Mosque in Kuala Kangsar.

Mohd Annuar said the Teachers’ Day observance would also feature mosque enlivenment programmes organised by the Education Department at the State Mosque, involving some 2,000 students and education personnel.

“The students’ spiritual motivation programme will begin at 10.20 am and will be followed by the recitation of Surah Yasin, tahlil and prayers for well-being.

“His Royal Highness the Sultan of Perak will also graciously attend Friday prayers together with students and education personnel at the Sultan Idris Shah II Mosque,” he said. - May 15, 2026
