PKR youth leader, Asheeq Ali Sethi Alivi, today announced his resignation from all his positions in the party, including as Batu PKR chief and Federal Territories PKR Youth chief.
In a statement, Asheeq said the decision was made as he felt the party's direction was now moving away from the principles of struggle and reform idealism that he believed in since joining PKR following the fall of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government through the Sheraton Move.
According to him, he initially believed there was still room to adapt to the party's new approach, but ended up facing a conflict between the idealism of struggle and the political pragmatism that was increasingly prevalent in PKR.
"Many of the decisions taken by the government today deviate from the principles of struggle that I have believed in since my activism days until now," he said.
He also said he would give two weeks’ notice to the federal territories minister regarding his resignation as chairman of the Batu parliamentary federal territories residents’ representative council.
He said that the transition process would also be carried out smoothly.
At the same time, Asheeq expressed his appreciation to all parties who had given him space, trust and support throughout his involvement in the party.
"Regardless of my political decisions from now on, I will continue to work and serve in Batu as a local born here.
"My commitment to the community has never been tied to any position or party alone," he added. – May 15, 2026
