TWO colleagues from an international banking company were killed in a fiery early-morning crash in Kuala Lumpur after the car they were travelling in skidded off the road and burst into flames near Jalan Sungai Besi.

The accident occurred at approximately 3.01am on Sunday as the victims were travelling from the city centre towards the Kuala Lumpur-Seremban Highway following a company dinner event.

Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa said the crash involved a grey Honda City Hatchback driven by a 29-year-old local man, with a 23-year-old local woman travelling as a passenger.

According to preliminary investigations, the pair were believed to be heading towards Ampang after attending a dinner organised by an international banking firm.

“Both victims were colleagues and were believed to be on their way home after attending a dinner event involving an international banking company en route to Ampang.

“Initial investigations found that while navigating a bend at the scene, the driver is believed to have lost control of the vehicle before skidding and crashing into a pillar wall on the left side of the road,” he said in a statement on Sunday.

The impact caused the vehicle to catch fire and become completely engulfed in flames.

Mohd Zamzuri said firefighters from the Cheras Fire and Rescue Department were deployed to extinguish the blaze and assist in removing the victims from the wreckage.

“As a result of the accident, the driver is believed to have been burnt to death, while the female passenger suffered severe head injuries.

“Both victims were confirmed dead at the scene by medical personnel,” he said.

Police have launched an investigation under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.

Mohd Zamzuri added that investigations were ongoing, including efforts to obtain closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage from the area to assist in determining the exact cause of the crash. - May 17, 2026
