A FEMALE e-hailing driver was injured after being beaten up by a group of teenagers, including two 14-year-old girls, in Kuala Sungai Baru, Alor Gajah, last Thursday, because they did not have money to pay the fare.
In the incident at about 12.30 am on May 14, the 41-year-old victim suffered bruises and swelling on her head, body, legs and arms, as well as scratches on her neck after being attacked by three of the four suspects.
Alor Gajah District Police Chief Superintendent Ahmad Abu Bakar said the incident occurred when the victim picked up four passengers, including a school student.
They consisted of two 14-year-old girls and two male friends aged 15 and 17 in the Bukit Rambai area.
“All the suspects wanted to go to Kuala Sungai Baru Town and booked a ride via the Grab application until they arrived at an area near the forest in Kuala Sungai Baru.
“One of the teenagers then asked the victim to stop the vehicle as he wanted to see a friend there because he did not have the money to make the payment online,” he said in a statement.
Ahmad said that a few minutes later, three of the four, except the 15-year-old boy, returned to the car and acted aggressively by attacking the victim using a hard object.
“The female suspect is believed to have beaten the victim with an iron rod, while the student pulled the victim’s hair, and the 17-year-old male suspect held the complainant by the neck from behind.
“Another 15-year-old male suspect fled the scene and did not get back into the car,” he added.
The victim finally managed to escape by driving away before lodging a police report.
“The victim then sought treatment at the hospital and was confirmed to have swelling and bruises on several parts of her body in addition to scratches on his neck.
“Following that, police managed to arrest all the teenagers on the evening of May 14 and remanded them until tomorrow before being referred to the Deputy Public Prosecutor for further instructions,” he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code for intentionally causing injury using a weapon or dangerous object. – May 19, 2026
