A LARGE-SCALE anti-narcotics operation at a prominent hotel in Kuala Lumpur has led to the arrest of 51 men and the seizure of more than RM100,000 worth of drugs after police uncovered what authorities described as a drug-fuelled private gathering involving local and foreign nationals.

The raids, carried out by officers from the Narcotics Crime Investigation Department of Royal Malaysia Police between 2.35am and 5am on Monday, targeted several hotel rooms allegedly being used for drug consumption and private parties.

Bukit Aman Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) director Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said 23 Malaysians and 28 foreign nationals aged between 21 and 52 were detained during the operation.

Police also confiscated a range of narcotics estimated to be worth RM103,070, including 1.15 kilogrammes of liquid methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA), 284 grammes of MDMA powder, ecstasy pills weighing 8.56 grammes, ecstasy powder weighing 8.7 grammes, and 11.61 grammes of ketamine.

“Initial urine screening results showed that 36 individuals tested positive for drugs, while 15 tested negative. A background check on their criminal records revealed that one of the arrested suspects has a prior criminal record related to a drug case,” Hussein said.

The operation took a more serious turn after officers allegedly encountered a man believed to be linked to the gathering being carried unconscious through the hotel lobby before the raids began.

“The victim was rushed to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL) but was confirmed dead upon arrival,” Hussein said.

Authorities believe several rooms at the luxury hotel had been converted into locations for parties, drug abuse and what police described as immoral activities.

All suspects have been remanded for between three and six days as investigations continue.

The case is being investigated under Sections 39B, 39A(1), 12(2) and 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, including offences linked to drug trafficking, possession and consumption. - May 26, 2026
