THE Immigration Department (JIM) announced that the new International Malaysian Passport (PMA), which was supposed to be issued from June 1, has been postponed to a date to be announced later.

Immigration Director-General Datuk Zakaria Shaaban said the move was taken to ensure smooth service delivery at the best level without any disruptions.

"The public can still renew their existing PMA as usual, and passports that are still valid will remain so until they expire.

"Any further developments regarding the implementation of the new version of the PMA will be announced through JIM's official channels," he said in a statement today.

Zakaria said the Immigration Department greatly appreciates the cooperation and continuous support from the public and remains committed to strengthening the security of the country's travel documents and delivering the best services to the people.

The Immigration Department previously announced that the new version of the PMA is scheduled to be issued starting June 1.

The new version of the PMA is equipped with 94 security features to ensure that the document remains safe and difficult to forge.

The new security features include hidden visual elements, holograms and ultraviolet (UV) printing.

In addition, the thread used to sew the passport book also has special security features. – May 26, 2026
