THE Ministry of Transport (MOT) will set up a special task force immediately to thoroughly investigate the cause of the LRT train derailment near Chan Sow Lin Station.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke said he has ordered the investigation findings to be submitted to the Cabinet as soon as possible and the report to be made public.

According to him, the Land Public Transport Agency (APAD) has also been instructed to take the maximum punitive action against Prasarana Malaysia Bhd (Prasarana) regarding the incident.

"APAD has opened an investigation into this incident immediately. I would like to emphasise that the Board of Directors and the Prasarana Management Team cannot continue with the 'business-as-usual' attitude.

"This kind of incident must be taken seriously, and no one in the top management of Prasarana is exempt from accountability for this incident.

"Safety standards and reliability of public services are not something that can be compromised," he said in a statement.

Loke, at the same time, stressed that serious action, including dismissal, must be taken by the Prasarana Board of Directors against anyone who is negligent in their responsibility to restore public confidence in the reliability of rail system services under the control of the party concerned.

"The ministry views this incident as very serious because it is not just a normal service disruption. The derailment of the train carries a high safety risk to passengers and staff.

"Although all 25 passengers were safely evacuated and no injuries were reported, MOT still takes a firm stance and will not compromise on public safety issues," he added.

Early this morning, an Ampang/Sri Petaling Line train derailed while passing through the track switch area at Chan Sow Lin Station, affecting the service schedule of the route.

Rapid KL, in a statement, announced that the incident was caused by a faulty track switch. – May 28, 2026
