A FAMILY journey ended in tragedy when a nine-year-old girl was killed in a collision involving two vehicles on a winding stretch of road in Sik, with preliminary investigations indicating that one of the cars crossed into the opposite lane before the impact.
The fatal crash occurred at approximately 2.45pm on Saturday along Jalan Charok Pelandok, where a Proton Persona and a Perodua Bezza collided while travelling in opposite directions.
Sik District Police Chief Superintendent Shamzury Saman said the incident involved a Proton Persona driven by a 71-year-old man and a Perodua Bezza driven by a 40-year-old woman who was travelling with her two children.
The young victim, a nine-year-old passenger in the Perodua Bezza, suffered severe head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to police, the Proton Persona was travelling from Kampung Batu Lapan towards Gurun and was carrying two occupants at the time of the collision.
“The Proton Persona driven by the elderly man was travelling from Kampung Batu Lapan towards Gurun and was carrying two occupants.
“The Perodua Bezza, driven by a woman accompanied by her two children aged two and nine, was travelling from Penang towards Kampung Sungai Senam.
“Both vehicles are believed to have been travelling from opposite directions. Upon reaching the location, the Perodua Bezza is believed to have lost control before entering the opposing lane and colliding with the Proton Persona,” he said when contacted today.
The crash also left four other individuals with various injuries. All those injured were transported to Sik Hospital for further treatment.
Police said the victim’s body was later taken to the Forensic Department of Sik Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
Shamzury said preliminary findings point to the Perodua Bezza losing control before crossing into the path of oncoming traffic.
“Initial investigations found that the accident was caused by the Perodua Bezza losing control and entering the opposite lane.
“The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987,” he said.
Authorities are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash while urging motorists to exercise caution, particularly when navigating bends and rural roads. - June 7, 2026
