KUANTAN – The government has allocated RM8 million for flood evacuees’ basic needs, such as dry food items, mattresses, blankets and pillows, at eight depots nationwide, said Woman, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Rina Harun.

Of the total, she said, RM1 million was allocated to Pahang, which, as of 1pm today, had 10,739 victims from 3,319 families at 201 relief centres in nine districts.

“The flood victims, as well as Welfare Department staff, are reminded to continue to comply with the standard operating procedure and observe the new normal, as stipulated by the National Security Council, during their stay at relief centres,” she said in a statement after visiting evacuees at Dewan Kg Pia, Masjid Kg Temau and SK Kundang Patah, about 160km from here.

She was accompanied by Pahang Social Welfare Department director Zulkhairi Zainol Abidin.

According to the department’s Info Bencana portal, as of 1pm, six states – Pahang, Johor, Selangor, Perak, Kelantan and Terengganu – were hit by floods, with a total 20,093 victims from 5,779 families housed at 284 relief centres. – Bernama, January 4, 2021
