PAKATAN Harapan (PH) is poised to conclude its seat allocation arrangements for the Johor and Negri Sembilan state elections once Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim returns from Japan and convenes the coalition’s presidential council meeting.
PH secretary-general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the coalition had completed the necessary discussions and would now seek formal approval from its highest decision-making body.
“So, the next process is to obtain confirmation. There will be a presidential council meeting chaired by the Prime Minister, and I will present it (the list) there.
“Only then, it will become official,” he said after the Home Ministry’s monthly assembly on Monday.
The announcement indicates that negotiations among PH component parties have largely been settled ahead of the elections, with only procedural endorsement remaining before candidate preparations move into the next phase.
Saifuddin Nasution, who is also PKR vice-president, revealed that previous disputes involving overlapping claims to certain constituencies had been successfully resolved.
“We recently resolved that issue in Johor during the secretariat meeting there,” he said.
The developments come after the Johor State Legislative Assembly was dissolved on June 1, followed by the dissolution of the Negri Sembilan Legislative Assembly on June 5, paving the way for fresh state elections.
Separately, Saifuddin Nasution said the government would continue using existing stocks of MyKad identity cards despite the expiry of the previous supply contract on June 1, stressing that public funds should not be wasted.
“The fact that a new contract has begun does not mean we should destroy stock that is still available,” he said.
He noted that approximately 35,000 MyKad applications are received each month from Malaysians reaching the age of 12, adding that the transition to newly issued cards would be implemented in a practical and cost-effective manner.
On the introduction of Malaysia’s new 10-year passport, Saifuddin Nasution said the government would announce the launch date at an appropriate time.
The Fees (Passports and Visas) (Amendment) Order 2026, published in the Federal Government Gazette on June 3, fixed the fee for the new 10-year passport at RM350 for Malaysians aged between 18 and 59. - June 9, 2026
