THE Terengganu government has moved swiftly to reassure the public that state administration remains stable following the dramatic breakdown in political relations between PAS and Bersatu, confirming that no changes will be made to the state executive council despite the national-level fallout.
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar dismissed speculation of an impending cabinet reshuffle, signalling that governance considerations will take precedence over the political turbulence currently unfolding within the opposition bloc.
“Still the same. That’s all,” BH reported him telling reporters after attending the Terengganu Executive Council meeting in Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday.
The brief but decisive statement effectively confirms that all existing state executive councillors will remain in their positions, including Bersatu Terengganu chief Datuk Razali Idris, whose future in the state administration had become the subject of intense political speculation following PAS's decision to sever ties with its longtime ally.
Questions over Razali’s position emerged after PAS announced the immediate termination of political cooperation with Bersatu, a move that has triggered uncertainty over the future configuration of opposition-led governments and the broader direction of Perikatan Nasional.
However, Terengganu's decision to maintain the status quo suggests that state-level cooperation may continue despite the escalating political rupture at the national level.
The development offers one of the clearest indications yet that PAS-led administrations are seeking to avoid disruptions to governance while assessing the implications of the party’s strategic break with Bersatu.
The decision follows a special meeting of the PAS Central Working Committee, which formally endorsed the termination of political cooperation with Bersatu with immediate effect.
PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang subsequently said the party had adopted the decision of the Syura Ulama Council reached on 2 June after considering policy, religious principles and broader political interests related to the party’s cooperation framework under the banner of Muslim unity.
Despite the national split, Bersatu remains a significant political force within Terengganu's legislative landscape.
At the 2023 Terengganu state election, the party secured five seats in the State Legislative Assembly — Hulu Besut, Permaisuri, Seberang Takir, Telemong and Kijal — helping to strengthen Perikatan Nasional's overwhelming dominance in the state.
For now, Terengganu appears determined to separate governance from political upheaval. While PAS and Bersatu navigate an increasingly uncertain relationship at the national level, the state government has signalled that administrative continuity and political stability will remain its immediate priorities.
