A 24-YEAR-OLD shop assistant has pleaded guilty in the Sessions Court in Kota Bharu to charges of injuring his father with a machete and deliberately setting fire to two vehicles in a violent incident that occurred earlier this month.
Wan Saiful Wan Animebusu entered the guilty plea after the charges were read before Sessions Court Judge Ahmad Bazli Bahruddin.
The first charge relates to an attack on his father, 59-year-old Wan Animebusu Wan Yusoff, whom he was accused of intentionally injuring using a machete.
According to the charge, the offence took place at Kampung Wakaf in Pasir Puteh at approximately 6.30pm on June 1.
He was charged under Section 324 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 26A of the Penal Code. The offence carries a maximum sentence of 10 years' imprisonment, a fine, whipping, or any combination of those punishments upon conviction.
In a separate charge, Wan Saiful admitted to committing arson by using petrol to deliberately destroy a Proton Satria Neo car and a Honda C70 motorcycle.
The act allegedly caused losses amounting to RM7,000 to the owner of the vehicles.
The arson offence was committed at the same location and time as the machete attack.
For that charge, he was prosecuted under Section 435 of the Penal Code, which provides for a prison sentence of up to 14 years as well as whipping upon conviction.
The prosecution was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Nur Kamilah Che Ibrahim, while the accused appeared before the court without legal representation.
During proceedings, Nur Kamilah requested a later date for the submission of exhibits and sentencing proceedings.
The court subsequently fixed June 30 for sentencing, when Wan Saiful is expected to learn his punishment after formally admitting guilt to both offences. - June 11, 2026
