A 34-YEAR-OLD local man was found dead outside a condominium in Penampang on Thursday, prompting an investigation by police and forensic officers into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The man was discovered near the condominium lobby at approximately 3.50pm.
Penampang District Police Chief Superintendent Sammy Newton said officers from the Criminal Investigation Division of the Penampang District Police Headquarters, together with the D10 Forensic Unit from the Sabah Police Contingent Headquarters, were deployed to investigate the case.
"Investigations found that the victim is believed to have fallen from a residential unit on the 26th floor of the condominium building."
He said examinations conducted at the scene did not reveal any indication of criminal activity.
"Inspection of the location also found no elements of crime in relation to this incident," Sinar Harian cited him saying in a statement on Thursday.
The victim's body has since been transported to the Forensic Department at Queen Elizabeth I Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
"The post-mortem will determine the actual cause of the victim's death."
Newton said the case has been classified as a sudden death report pending the outcome of the post-mortem examination and further investigations.
“The case is classified as a sudden death report (SDR) while awaiting the post-mortem findings and further investigation," he said.
The police chief also urged the public to refrain from speculation that could interfere with the ongoing investigation.
He further appealed to members of the public to stop sharing photographs or videos related to the incident out of respect for the victim's family and loved ones.
"Members of the public are also requested to stop disseminating photographs or videos of the incident in order to respect and safeguard the sensitivities of the victim's family."
