POLICE in Perak have arrested a 30-year-old man suspected of killing his former girlfriend’s current partner and raping the woman in a case stemming from a relationship dispute in Jejawi, Perak Tengah.
Perak Police Chief Datuk Mohd Alwi Zainal Abidin said the suspect was detained at about 3.45pm on Wednesday at the Perlis Sentral Bus Terminal in Kangar following a coordinated operation between the Perak Criminal Investigation Department and their counterparts in Perlis.
He said investigators also recovered a knife believed to have been used in the attack after the suspect led police to the location where it had been discarded in a rubbish bin in Kangar town.
According to police, the incident began on June 9 when the suspect met his former girlfriend, a 25-year-old woman, in a paddy field area along Jalan Trans Perak at around 9am to discuss issues related to their past relationship.
“During the meeting, the suspect allegedly threatened and raped the woman inside his car,” he said.
The following day, at about 5am, while the suspect was sending the woman back to her vehicle, her 29-year-old boyfriend arrived at the scene to confront him.
“While the victim was present, the suspect fled the scene by driving his car. The victim gave chase and managed to ram and block the suspect’s vehicle from continuing,” Mohd Alwi said.
He added that once the victim stepped out of his vehicle, the suspect attacked him and stabbed him in the abdomen with a knife.
The suspect then fled the scene in the victim’s car before abandoning the vehicle at Persiaran Batu Gajah Perdana in Batu Gajah.
Police received an emergency report regarding the stabbing at 5.49am on June 10 through the Perak Tengah District Police Headquarters operations centre.
The victim was taken to a private clinic in Kampung Gajah but was pronounced dead due to severe stab injuries.
Mohd Alwi said preliminary investigations indicated that jealousy and relationship conflict were believed to be the main motive behind the incident.
He also confirmed that the suspect had a prior criminal record involving a vehicle theft offence under Section 379A of the Penal Code.
The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder and Section 376 of the Penal Code for rape. - June 12, 2026
