THE Election Commission (EC) has sold 553 nomination forms ahead of nomination day for the Johor state election, signalling an active contest as political parties and independent hopefuls make their final preparations for the campaign.
Election Commission chairman Datuk Seri Ramlan Harun told BH today that the latest figure was recorded as of Friday morning, adding that an updated total would be announced later in the day before the close of nominations form sales.
"Nomination day for the 56 Johor State Legislative Assembly seats will take place tomorrow from 9am to 10am.
"A total of 56 Nomination Centres will be opened to receive nomination papers for the 15th Johor State Legislative Assembly election, with proceedings at each centre to be managed by the respective Returning Officers," Ramlan said on Friday.
Nomination forms, priced at RM20 each, remain available for purchase until 5pm on Friday at the Election Commission headquarters, state Election Commission offices and the offices of appointed Returning Officers.
To qualify as a candidate, an individual must be a Malaysian citizen aged 21 or above, reside in Johor with a Johor address stated on their identity card, and not be disqualified under Article 17 of the Johor State Constitution.
The electoral roll for the 16th Johor state election comprises 2,727,926 registered voters, including 2,703,175 ordinary voters, 12,041 military personnel and their spouses, and 12,710 police personnel, General Operations Force (GOF) members and their spouses.
Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi announced the dissolution of the 56-seat state assembly on June 1 after obtaining the consent of the Regent of Johor, Tunku Mahkota Ismail.
Polling has been scheduled for July 11, while early voting will take place on July 7. - June 26, 2026
