POLICE are investigating a road accident in Padang Jawa, Section 16, which allegedly involved a motorcyclist believed to be of Rohingya origin, following claims that the incident went viral on social media.

Shah Alam district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Iqbal Sarudin Samah said the incident occurred at about 6.50pm on Thursday, June 25.

Preliminary investigations found that the accident occurred when a motorcycle ridden by the suspect, a Rohingya man, was turning right towards a commercial area from the Padang Jawa direction.

He said this resulted in a collision with another motorcycle travelling straight from the opposite direction, ridden by a local woman carrying her son, a school student.

The woman sustained minor injuries to her hand and shoulder and received outpatient treatment at Shah Alam Hospital.

Her son suffered a head injury and was admitted for observation at the same hospital for one day before being discharged.

The case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for careless and inconsiderate driving.

Police have urged members of the public with information on the incident to contact the investigating officer at the Shah Alam district traffic enforcement and investigation division.

Earlier, the incident circulated widely on social media, with claims that the motorcyclist attempted to flee the scene after the collision. - June 27, 2026
