DEPUTY Prime Minister and Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said he will meet Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming to discuss remarks that sparked controversy following the Johor state election.

Zahid said while such statements should have been avoided, he would address the matter within the spirit of cooperation under the MADANI Government.

“Such statements should be made appropriately because we meet every week in Cabinet meetings. If such a statement came from the opposition, perhaps we could view it differently.

“But if we are all part of the same government, there is no need to make such statements. It is alright, I will meet him. He is also my friend,” he told reporters after attending the mandate session with the TVET@KKDW contingent for the WorldSkills competition on Monday.

Nga, who is also DAP deputy chairman, was previously reported to have said he would become the first minister to resign if UMNO achieved a major victory in the Johor state election and former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak was released.

Zahid said members of the unity government should avoid making statements that could create unnecessary tension, given their shared responsibility in governing the country.

He said cooperation between UMNO, BN and other parties in the Unity Government remained stable, with all parties committed to working professionally.

“We are moving as one team in the Unity Government and in a professional manner. That is our hope because we have promised to remain in this Unity Government until the end of the term. This is what we are practising.

“As for public perception outside, that is a separate matter. But the reality is that we are in a very good situation,” he said.

Zahid, who is also UMNO president, reiterated that the government’s priority remained delivering on its commitments while maintaining political stability until the end of its current term. - July 13, 2026
