THE cooperation between Barisan Nasional (BN) and Perikatan Nasional (PN) in the Negeri Sembilan state election is aimed at creating a stable political environment for the state, according to UMNO secretary-general Datuk Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki.

He said the immediate focus of the alliance was to ensure candidates from both coalitions achieve victory in all 36 seats contested in the Negeri Sembilan Legislative Assembly.

“The most important thing is that we have a shared understanding to ensure we win all seats. First, we will campaign responsibly and explain what we want to offer to the people.

“The people of Negeri Sembilan, like those in Johor, want the best, and most importantly, we want to provide a foundation of stability,” he said.

Asyraf said the cooperation represented an understanding between parties with Malay and Islamic roots, while stressing the need to acknowledge Negeri Sembilan’s multiracial and multicultural character.

“We see cooperation between the core parties of the Malays and Muslims, but most importantly, we must recognise the reality that Negeri Sembilan is a state with various races and religions,” he said.

He made the remarks after attending the nomination process for the Serting, Palong, Jeram Padang and Bahau state seats at the Jempol District Administration Complex.

In Palong, three candidates are contesting the seat, with BN incumbent Datuk Mustapha Nagoor facing Zahin Zinal Abidin from Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Rebin Birham from Bersatu.

At Jeram Padang, BN is defending the constituency through incumbent Datuk Zaidy Abdul Kadir, who is being challenged by G Manivannan from PH, R Sri Sanjeevan from Bersatu and Dayana Dal from Parti Asli.

In Bahau, BN has fielded MCA candidate Chong Fui Ming, who will go up against PH incumbent Teo Kok Seong in a contest for the seat.

Meanwhile, PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang said BN would also provide support to PN candidates throughout the two-week campaign period, describing the arrangement as a positive development reflecting closer cooperation between the two political blocs.

“Alhamdulillah, this shows a very good performance. The spirit is very positive, especially the cooperation with BN. What is important is that we ensure Malay and Islamic leadership continues to lead in Negeri Sembilan.

“We will cooperate with each other during the campaign. God willing, they (BN) will campaign in our areas and we (PN) will campaign in theirs,” BH quoted hm saying today..

Hadi was speaking after attending the nomination process for the Serting state constituency at the Jempol District Administration Complex.

He said the cooperation between PN and BN would continue to be evaluated over time, adding that both sides were not rushing to finalise any broader political arrangement beyond the current election collaboration.

“We were informed from the beginning about the cooperation between PN and BN. We will not rush; we will assess it from time to time. God willing, we will see how the outcome develops after this,” he said.

Earlier, Hadi, accompanied by several PN leaders including PN Election Director Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor, joined the coalition’s candidate for the Serting state seat, incumbent Fairuz Isa, during the nomination process.

Fairuz will face candidates from Pakatan Harapan (PH), Yaacob Mahmood, and Bersatu’s Muhammad Noraffendy Mohd Salleh in a three-way contest for the constituency. - July 18, 2026
