JOHOR Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi announced a refreshed 10-member State Executive Council (EXCO), retaining six incumbent members and introducing four new faces to spearhead the state's administration for the new term.

The appointments were confirmed after the new EXCO members took their oath of office before Johor Regent Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim at Istana Bukit Serene on Saturday, completing the formation of the state executive following Barisan Nasional's emphatic victory in the 16th Johor state election.

Announcing the line-up at a press conference at his official residence in Saujana, Onn Hafiz said the new administration combines continuity with renewal to strengthen governance and deliver on the coalition's election mandate.

The four new appointees are Kukup assemblyman Md Israk Abdullah, who has been entrusted with the Agriculture, Agro-based Industry and Rural Development portfolio; Panti assemblyman Dr Mohd Naqib Ghazali, who takes charge of Education and Information; Pulai Sebatang assemblywoman Hasrunizah Hassan, who will oversee Women, Family and Community Development; and Perling assemblyman P. Pannir Selvam, who has been appointed chairman of the National Unity, Heritage and Culture Committee.

Six members of the previous administration retained their respective portfolios.

Datuk Mohd Jafni Md Shukor continues as chairman of the Housing and Local Government Committee, Mohd Hairi Mad Shah retains the Youth and Sports, Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives portfolio, while Mohd Fared Mohd Khalid remains in charge of Islamic Religious Affairs.

Mohamad Fazli Mohamad Salleh continues to oversee Public Works, Transport and Infrastructure, Lee Ting Han retains the Investment, Trade, Consumer Affairs and Human Resources portfolio, while Ling Tian Soon remains chairman of the Health and Environment Committee.

The reshuffle also sees four former EXCO members omitted from the new line-up.

They are Khairin Nisa Ismail, formerly responsible for Women, Family and Community Development; Datuk Zahari Sarip, who previously headed Agriculture, Agro-based Industry and Rural Development; Aznan Tamin, the former Education and Information Committee chairman; and K. Raven Kumar, who previously oversaw National Unity, Heritage and Culture.

Of the four, only Khairin Nisa did not contest the 16th Johor state election after she was not renominated to defend the Serom state seat.

The swearing-in ceremony, initially scheduled for Friday, was postponed to Saturday by the Royal Press Office without an official explanation.

Onn Hafiz, who is also the Machap assemblyman, began his second consecutive term as Menteri Besar after taking the oath of office on 12 July, a day after Barisan Nasional secured a commanding mandate by winning 48 of the 56 seats contested in the Johor Legislative Assembly.

‘No Honeymoon, Get To Work’

Onn Hafiz has told the state's newly appointed Executive Council (EXCO) members there will be no "honeymoon period", urging them to immediately deliver on Barisan Nasional's overwhelming electoral mandate and fast-track the Maju Johor 2030 development agenda.

Speaking after the swearing-in ceremony of the new EXCO line-up, Onn Hafiz said the Barisan Nasional-led state government must quickly translate its landslide election victory into stronger governance, more effective public service delivery and tangible improvements to the lives of Johoreans.

“I want to remind the entire EXCO line-up that we have no time for a honeymoon. There is no honeymoon period. The valuable mandate given by Bangsa Johor must be translated into harder work, more efficient delivery and results that can be felt by every citizen,” he said at a press conference at the Menteri Besar's official residence in Saujana on Saturday.

Onn Hafiz said the immediate priority of his administration is to accelerate the implementation of the Maju Johor 2030 blueprint with greater focus and effectiveness to build a more advanced, prosperous and sustainable state.

He said the newly formed EXCO, comprising a blend of experienced leaders and fresh faces, was designed to ensure the state government remains dynamic, efficient and responsive in addressing the needs of the people.

“The appointment as an EXCO member is not a privilege but a great trust and responsibility that must be carried out with full commitment to safeguard the welfare of Bangsa Johor,” he said.

The Menteri Besar also expressed his appreciation to Johor Regent Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim for consenting to the appointment of the new EXCO members.

“On behalf of the Johor government, I extend our highest gratitude to Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim for consenting to the appointment of the new Johor State Executive Council,” he said.

Congratulating all 10 EXCO members, Onn Hafiz reminded them to discharge their duties with integrity, dedication and a strong spirit of teamwork.

He said the state government would continue to focus on improving public service delivery, expediting policy implementation and ensuring that the benefits of development are shared by all Johoreans.

Onn Hafiz stressed that his administration would continue to protect the interests of every community, regardless of race, including Malays, Chinese, Indians and the Orang Asli, emphasising that all are part of Bangsa Johor.

“May every decision we make always be guided by the interests of the people and be blessed. Unity brings blessings,” he said. - July 18, 2026
