A MAN was killed in an alleged hit-and-run accident while installing party flags along Jalan Kuala Sawah-Rantau near Kampung Belangkan, Rantau, yesterday evening.

Seremban district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Yatim Osman said the accident occurred at about 6.40pm and was believed to have involved a lorry that fled the scene shortly after the incident.

"An accident occurred near Kampung Belangkan, believed to have involved a lorry and a 23-year-old male pedestrian.

"Initial investigations found that the accident occurred when the man was standing on the left shoulder of the road heading towards Rantau while carrying out work to install party flags," he said in a statement today.

Mohd Yatim said the lorry, which had an unidentified registration number, was believed to have suddenly veered into the area and struck a signboard pole and the pedestrian standing on the roadside.

"The lorry driver is believed to have left the scene immediately after the accident, and efforts to trace the driver and witnesses are still ongoing.

"The victim was believed to have fallen onto the roadside and suffered injuries to his face and head before being pronounced dead at the scene," he said.

Members of the public with information on the incident have been urged to contact investigating officer Inspector Nor Fadzilah Mohd Zainuddin at 019-4611794, the Seremban District Operations Room at 06-6033222, or visit the nearest police station to assist investigations.
